The scanning devices of axles USO-1ТМ and USO-1ТМ (RV2SH) in the set with the flaw detector Tomographic UD4-ТМ are designed for ultrasonic testing of axles of wheel pairs of the RU1, RU1SH type (with USO-1ТМ scanning device) and type RV2SH (with USO-1ТМ (RV2SH) scanning device) in accordance with the requirements of CIS countries:

1. "Rules for Nondestructive Inspection of Parts and Components of Wheel bars of Wagons for Repair, Special Requirements";
2. "Nondestructive testing system in OAO "FPK." Wheel set elements for passenger wagons of rail tracks 1520 mm. Ultrasonic testing requirements".

Ultrasonic testing of wheel set axles using scanning devices USO-1ТМ and USO-1ТМ (RV2SH) with a flaw detector Tomographic UD4-ТМ is carried out from the wheel seat part and carry out of the controlled areas testing for the one turn without dismantling of the axle box with the ability to build a tomography and the flaw area coordinates determination. While testing A-scan of current zone is displayed on the screen of the flaw detector, all of probes that are set at the scanning device are in operation. Data received from all of the working probes (while the scanning system is in motion) is displayed on C-scan.


When operating scanning devices USO-1ТМ and USO-1ТМ (RV2SH) with other standard flaw detectors, testing is accomplished within several axis turns. Switching between testing zones is done manually.

Testing zones and applicable variants of wheel set axles ultrasonic testing method:

BR1 - the testing is carried out using two probes P121-5.0-65 ° - USO, working in a double scheme, shear waves in the axial direction to detect lateral cracks in a discharge groove and transverse cracks under an inner edge of a bearing ring;

BR2 - the testing is carried out using a probe P121-2,5-43 ° - USO with shear waves in the axial direction in order to detect transverse cracks between bearing rings;

BR3 - the testing is carried out using a probe P121-2,5-19 ° - USO with longitudinal waves in the axial direction in order to detect transverse cracks in the zone under the outer edge of the wheel hub;

BR4 - the testing is carried out using a probe P121-2,5-55 ° -USO with shear waves in axial direction in order to detect transverse cracks in the zone under a hub inner edge


Flaws detected (by the railways classificatory):

type 423 (crack in a journal fillet and dust-shield collar parts of an axle);

type 422 (crack in a journal sand dust-shield collar parts of an axle);

type 421 (crack in the axle set).

For preliminary preparation of a journal fillet to the testing carry out (cleaning from operational pollution), the user is offered the axis cleaning device UOO-1T with interchangeable magazines (cleaning-knives).
