Tomographic 2.3, ultrasonic testing of locomotive parts

This application Tomographic 2.3 is intended for ultrasonic testing of parts of locomotives of following series: ChS2, ChS2t, ChS4, ChS4t, ChS7, VL, 2TE116, 2TE10, М62, TEM2, ChMEЭ-3, ER1,2,9, ED4m, ET2.
The range of tested parts: axle, tire, tread, tooth space, ETM (electric traction motor) pole securing bolt, suspension bolt, cardan shaft, pinion shaft, elongated hub, suspension shackle, suspension tube.
Technique of the combined ultrasonic testing of locomotive and MDRS parts is applicable at enterprises dealing with completing, operation and repair pf locomotive parts, including ultrasonic testing in the process of reconditioning of worn-out components or their thermal strengthening.
Testing of tires is performed using scanning device USK-TL, which reduces significantly timer and labor required for testing. USK-TL contains the built-in track detector that permits plotting of tomographic images and determination of coordinates of defective sections and eddy-current probe to reveal manufacturer’s markings of tires in order to prevent over rejection (false flaw responses in the marking area). Due to the built-in multi-channel system, ultrasonic and eddy-current probes operate simultaneously.

Concept of the Tomographic 2.2 development is oriented toward maximal deemphasizing of human factor by means of implementation of following modes:

  • Acoustic contact tracing;
  • Full PEP monitoring;
  • Analysis of attenuation in tested materials;
  • Visualization of flaws, including equivalent area, location depth and spatial orientation.

Built-in training demo clips for quick familiarization with application.

Functional Features:

• Automatic calculation of distance to a flaw and projection on X- and Y-axis.
• Automatic mode of gain control allows user not to spend time for selection of required gain.
• Archive of results makes it possible to review all required information on test parameters and results.
• Test results are documented by means of universal application NDT operator AWS.

For testing of wheel and pinion teeth, specialized wedge-shaped PEP’s (49°, 72° wedge angle) are applied for installation into groove between teeth.
