The specialized application "Osi-270" provides testing method of railway axles (rough and finishing). The application was developed by request of Dneprovsky Metallurgical Works of F.E. Dzerjinsky.

The ultrasonic testing procedure is intended for detection of soundlessness and search for discontinuity in railway axles of all types during acceptance tests.

The sensitivity adjustment during the soundness testing is performed according to bottom echo signal in the CO-2 standart specimen (fig.2). There is also a possibility to use another standard specimen with alternative reflectors,  which can provide repeatability of sensitivity adjustment.

The sensitivity adjustment during the flaw detection testing is performed per branch-wise specimens or standart specimens of the enterprise with  flat-bottomed reflectors that are located at minimal, average and approximately maximal testing zone depths.

The axles and axle raw parts are tested using the optical coordinate device (fig.3), wich serves for determination of probe location on the axle butt. Usage of the coordinate device allows to determine the flaw occurrence depth and probe location relative to the axle center, it  also provides the control of the probe movement.

During the testing, the axle butt with images of  testing points is schematically displayed (fig.5). The program automatically traces the acoustic contact between coordinate device and probe. The application is controlled with the keys located on the device front panel or by keyboard located on the coordinate device.

After the testing is finished, the results can be saved in the archive. To save results in the archive, the axle and melting numbers must  be entered. The numbers can be entered with the keys located on the device front panel or by keyboard located on the coordinate device.

To document the results, the UD4-T Operator's Workbench application is used.
